How to ensure human rights in Central Asian schools


Within the framework of the online round table, the problems and protection of children's rights through education were discussed by representatives of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and education departments, international organizations, civil society organizations, as well as school teachers. Experts of the Committee for the Protection of Children's Rights of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, UNODC, Street Law shared their experience, specific tools and recommendations

On April 19, the Eurasian Center for Economic and Legal Studies gathered researchers and practitioners in the format of a round table "Implementation of child rights protection tools in the education system in Central Asia" within the framework of the international scientific conference of Narxoz University "Ryskulov Readings-2021".


Olena Bondarenko, Deputy Director of the Eurasian Center for Economic and Legal Studies, said that the idea of exchanging experience between practitioners arose after conducting a large-scale course on education in the field of human rights and sustainable development for teachers of Kazakhstan with the support of the Soros-Kazakhstan Foundation: "We received more than 5 thousand applications for participation in a course on the topic of rights, human rights and sustainable development from teachers from all regions of Kazakhstan. Course participants who have been trained with experts in the framework of webinars and an online course on the free SDG lessons platform.kz notes that such training gives them the opportunity to discuss such important topics as equality, inclusion, and ways to protect their rights in various subjects, from history to physics, in an interesting and effective way with students. We hope that as part of the further transformation of education, these topics will be an integral part of standards and programs


The participants stressed the need for the exchange of experience and interaction between all parties, including government agencies, civil initiatives and international partners, to introduce human rights protection issues in the educational process, including the content of education for all subjects. The participants of the discussion also noted the need for the presented tools and training on their use, and also suggested including the topic of human rights protection in the framework of recommendations developed by the National Academy of Education for Teachers of Kazakhstan, to exchange experiences and meetings within the community of practitioners.
