On April 19, 2021, Mieke Meurs, the international expert of the Gender Economics Research Center (GERC), professor at the American University (Washington, DC), Director of GERC Maigul Nugmanova, the researchers of the Center for 2020-2021 academic year Alisher Tleubayev, Almira Tabayeva, and Akbota Sadvakasova spoke at the Ryskulov research conference 2021 organized by Narxoz University.
Professor Meurs elaborated on the key elements of supporting women which help make a full contribution to the economy in the long-term, including freeing women from the unequal burden of care. Professor Meurs also noted the importance of GERC's activities to promote successful effective policies to empower women in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.
Maigul Nugmanova acquainted the conference participants with the research of GERC and noted that a new stage in the development of GERC research is related to the study of the gender-differentiated impact of the pandemic on employment and unpaid work and the development of policy recommendations to promote effective policies to prevent the negative consequences of the pandemic.
The Fellows of the Center presented interim results of their research within the framework of the 2020–2021 fellowship program.
