Jas Ala CUP Urban Debate Tournament: Youth at the forefront of change

On August 8, 2024, the City Debate Tournament Jas Ala CUP, dedicated to the celebration of the International Youth Day, was held at Narxoz University. This day, established by the UN General Assembly in 1999, is designed to highlight the importance of youth in the modern world, their achievements and potential. The International Youth Day, celebrated on August 12, reminds us that the younger generation is not just the future, but also active participants in today's global processes.
The Jas Ala CUP debate tournament has become one of those venues where young people can unlock their potential and develop important critical thinking and argumentation skills. The event was held with the support of the Almaty City Youth Policy Department and the NGO Kaz Eco Patrol, chaired by Adil Tynyshtykbayovich Nurpeisov. The tournament was organized by student organizations of Narxoz University: the diplomatic club “Turar” and the debate organization “TEO”
The tournament was held in the format of the British Parliamentary Debate (BPF), which was attended by 8 teams, each of which consisted of two people. Four teams competed in each round — two representing the Government and two representing the Opposition. Participants were provided with debate resolutions 15 minutes before the start of each round, which added dynamics and tension to the competition.
Tournament Resolutions:
1. This year's Olympic Games are the most disastrous.
2. Free movement of labor around the world.
3. Do I need medications to suppress romantic feelings?
Such topics are more relevant than ever in the modern world, and each participant was able to contribute to the discussion of these important issues.
Tournament results:
The first place was taken by the team "Nolik on Onlik", which included Artem Dmitrievich Pozvezhinsky, a graduate of the Higher School of Economics, and Azat Armanovich Shaikenov, a graduate of IITU
The second place went to the Argument A team, represented by Kairzhanov Bekzhan, a student at KIMEP, and Danila Ogai, a student at IITU.
The third place went to the Techno team, which included Abdilla Asanali, a student at Satbayev University, and Mohammed Aidana, a student at Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University.
The fourth place was taken by Aitkali Tleuzhan and Vladislav Kulichenko from Satbayev University with the Dialectic Masters team.
The winners of the tournament demonstrated a high level of preparation and the ability to defend their position in a reasoned manner, which indicates that young people are ready not only to take part in important discussions, but also to offer solutions to topical issues.
The Jas Ala CUP urban debate tournament has become an important event in the framework of the celebration of International Youth Day, once again emphasizing the importance of youth in modern society. We are confident that such events not only contribute to the development of key skills among young people, but also strengthen the culture of constructive dialogue and mutual respect.
