A Gas Analyzer Appeared in the Narxoz Eco-Laboratory. Ecology Students Conducted Initial Measurements

A portable gas analyzer GANK-4, worth more than 5 million tenge, has been introduced in the Environmental Laboratory of the School of Arts and Social Sciences at Narxoz University. The equipment was purchased through a grant project of the Ecology educational program.
This device is designed to measure air pollution levels based on five key elements: carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, suspended particles (total dust), hydrogen sulfide, and sulfur dioxide. It has been calibrated and certified by the manufacturer. Until now, no university in Almaty had such equipment.
Students from the Ecology program received training and have already started using the device to measure air pollution around the university.
● For NO₂, with a maximum permissible concentration (MPC) of 0.200, the recorded result was 0.020.
● For CO, with an MPC of 5, the recorded result was 2.4.
● Dust levels were measured three times:
  • First measurement: 0.952
  • Second measurement: 0.737
  • Third measurement: 0.732 (MPC: 0.500)
This hands-on experience allows students to develop practical skills in environmental monitoring, analyze air quality, and use this data for further research. Throughout the semester, students will conduct fieldwork and use their findings to create articles, projects, and reports.
Events aimed at fostering environmental awareness are regularly held at Narxoz University. In February, a screening of "Almaty? OK to Live with Smog?", directed by Kanat Beisekeyev, was followed by a discussion on air pollution and its consequences.
From March 31 to April 10, 2025, Narxoz University will host the large-scale EcoForum-2025, featuring multiple key events:
March 31 – The 2nd International Student Scientific Conference on Ecology and Sustainable Development. This event will serve as a platform for academic dialogue, idea exchange, and the presentation of scientific research in ecology and sustainable development. The conference aims to bring together students and experts from Narxoz University as well as other universities across Kazakhstan and Central Asia. Participants can submit scientific, theoretical, or experimental research papers. To apply, send a submission to salimbaeva.rasima@narxoz.kz. More details can be found here.

  • April 1 – "Save Nature" Scientific Project Competition for Narxoz students.
  • April 2 – Environmental Olympiad for 9th-11th grade students from Almaty and the Almaty region.
  • Applications are open until March 27 via elmira.boribai@narxoz.kz.
  • April 3 – Eco-Exhibition "ZeroWaste – A Second Life for Waste". Featuring interactive stands on waste recycling and reuse, a workshop on waste separation, an eco-market, and discussions with experts in sustainability.
  • April 5 – A tree-planting campaign at the Medeu.
  • April 10 – A roundtable discussion with experts and environmental partners.
We welcome everyone who cares about the future of our planet!
