Narxoz University, Almaty, Kazakhstan, 2021
20.04 - 22.04
Global Days
Global Week is aimed at building an efficient and effective ecosystem of partnerships focused on creating a sustainable university through our comprehensive and forward-looking network of stakeholders: business partners, alumni, and friends of Narxoz University.

Agenda

SHAPING THE FUTURE:
PARTNERING RESEARCH AND BUSINESS FOR SUSTAINABILITY

We will be highlighting the best practices that engage both business expertise and academia to make contributions toward a sustainable Kazakhstan. Strategic partners and alumni of Narxoz will be sharing knowledge toward both broadening and deepening knowledge of sustainability issues within the local community.

In our discussions we will focus on SDG 17: The Role of Partnerships for Achieving the SDGs. Asking alumni what commitments they can make they can play to help academia assist in achieving the SDGs through the facilitation of partnerships between academia, policy makers, businesses and other community stakeholders through the design, development and execution of local, central and international cooperation programs and projects for sustainable development. As well as identifying and scaling creative solutions to complex problems.

We are currently engaged in an ambitious transformation to become a largely English-medium institution with an inward orientation toward positive social transformation while serving as a cultural, educational and intellectual bridge to the global world. Narxoz is accredited and affiliated with several prestigious institutions and this will help us reinforce this role, and further help us become and remain the standout undergraduate and graduate social and business programs in Central Asia.

Towards Sustainable Campus Operations:

We will work with students, faculty and support staff to foster a culture of self-sustainability and make the entire campus environmentally friendly. The Green Narxoz Day will enable the university to develop our campus as a living laboratory for innovation and is dedicated to Earth Day that is celebrated all around the world. Narxoz University will be a part of global environmental events, conducted by Sustainable Kazakhstan Research Institute.

5R PRINCIPLE: REFUSE< REUSE<REDUCE< REPURPOSE<RECYCLE

STEP 1
Principle of every one has to develop a plan to spend one day under the mottos “NO PLASTIC”, “NO PAPER”, “NO CAR”. That means we don’t buy anything that is made of plastic or contains plastic. We also don’t use anything made of plastic that we have to throw away after using it. So no food wrapped in plastic, no plastic bags, no take-away coffee in plastic cups and so on. We do not print and think before printing. “No Car” movement will enable Narxoz to find the best mode of transportation and help to shift away from car dependence.

STEP 2
Principle of the Best Practices in Waste Treatment and Recycling. We will present examples of good waste practices and create videos with MyTAZALYK and Kazakhstan Waste Recycling companies. These actions will not only raise awareness on waste issues and organize the waste management projects among the Narxoz students but provide information on waste separation, recycling possibilities and present how to get jobs in this sector.

STEP 3
Principle of “Green Corner”. Narxoz will establish a consumer- friendly and household-friendly network of e-waste and waste batteries collection in order to facilitate the correct discarding process for such waste. One of the goals is to change neighbourhood habits and achieve the maximum efficiency in the separation of this type of waste. Street bins at Narxoz Campus for collecting small household appliances and waste batteries at several waste bin areas throughout the neighborhood. The Green corner bins will collect paper, plastic and waste batteries.
