About the Programme

The educational programme "Ecology" offers a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to analyse the complex environmental challenges we face today, and empowers students to develop actionable steps to reduce existing and potential harm to the environment.

Students will delve into the intricate world of environmental legislation, standards, and regulations. By focusing on these essential frameworks, students will develop the necessary skills to assess and monitor environmental impacts effectively. Moreover, our programme emphasizes the development of computer modelling skills, enabling students to conduct comprehensive assessments of environmental and economic damage, as well as evaluate environmental risks.

Within the "Ecology" programme, students will have the opportunity to engage in practical learning experiences. They will acquire the knowledge and expertise needed to run projects successfully, both individually and in collaborative teams. This approach nurtures essential project management skills and fosters effective teamwork, preparing students for real-world challenges.

Main Courses:

• Environmental monitoring course is aimed at developing the skills of measuring environmental pollution with subsequent chemical processing of samples in environmental laboratories and compiling various types of reporting on environmental indicators, based on the results of monitoring and environmental quality standards.
• Environmental Assessment and EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) course provides students with analytical skills necessary to assess the environmental impacts of development projects.
• Environmental Resource Science course provides students with a deeper understanding of the natural resources of Kazakhstan and how they can be managed sustainably.
• Computer technologies in ecology course is aimed at studying the method of carrying out ecological and economic calculations, on the basis of which students estimate the environmental impact on the environment.
• Eco-management course contains the principles of environmental management that support ISO 14000 and 19001 standards at the enterprise, in accordance with the sustainable development paradigm, as a result of which students will master the tools for implementing and organizing eco-management, study the environmental policy and environmental quality management system of enterprises in order to solve real cases for conducting eco-audit.
• Human Ecology course is aimed at developing knowledge and skills in the analysis of socio-ecological events and the study of ecological and human interaction.
• Environmental economics course is aimed at studying the principles of environmental economic analysis and methods of economic and mathematical modelling for solving practical cases of nature use.
• Applied climatology course allows students to practically understand the basic concepts of climatology through observation, processing and analysis of meteorological and climatic data, reading cartographic materials, calculation of bioclimatic indices and ecological security based on climatic indicators.
• Ecological and economic aspects of the Central Asian region course covers the problems of regional environmental security in the region and allows students to participate in field research and expeditions (Aral, Baikonur, Fergana valley), as well as in master classes of real project experts.
